Since it was built, the building has been modified on a number of occasions. For example, the building did not have balustrade prior to the 19th century. The balustrade was only added following the beginning of the 19th century in a bid to enhance the protection of firemen. There are also parts of the building which are no longer in existence. A major example of such parts includes the spiral shaped stone staircase which lay behind the northern arch. This was used to access the second and third floors. But, it has ceased to exist over the years due to modifications of the old house.

Over the years, the Old State House of Connecticut has been associated with many strange incidences. It is by far one of the most interesting old state houses of the United States. The following is a look at some of the most notable interesting facts that are associated with the old house.

Up to now intense debate about who was behind the design of the historical building still exists. This follows the fact that information pertaining to the designs of the building remains scanty despite the building having been in existence for many years. It is generally believed that the building was designed by an iconic American architect, Charles Bulfinch. The belief is based on the fact that the Old State House has an architecture which is very close to that of the State Hall in Liverpool which was built around the same time as the Old State House.

The Building Was Abandoned In 1915 But Was Not Demolished

Even though the Old State House was declared a national historical landmark of Connecticut in 1960, it was actually abandoned in 1915. After 1915, the building did not serve any meaningful purpose. The only time the building came back to life was when it was refurbished five years later.

It Is One Of The Most Attractive Historical Buildings In The US

Despite being over 200 years old, the building has still remained quite alluring to look at. It has remained one of the most attractive buildings in the US. This is despite the fact that it has been abandoned before in the past on many occasions. Even as recent as 2008, the building abandoned on account of lack of funds for the continued maintenance of its structural and architectural elements. But, recent renovations have ensured that the building remains intact for a taste of time.
