School & Youth Groups
General Information
At the Old State House students of all ages learn that history is fun! All of our programs are hands-on, interactive, and curriculum-based. Many feature our signature “process drama” techniques, in which students bring history and civics to life through improvisation, movement, and role-playing. Other programs bring students face-to-face with historic objects, images, and architecture. With our historic rooms, captivating Holcombe Education Center, and History Is All Around Us exhibition, the Old State House offers a creative and unique learning environment. Our school programs are thematic and focus on the political, social, and economic history of the Old State House, its site, and the City of Hartford.
All programs have been designed to meet the goals and objectives of the Connecticut Frameworks and to help build the skills necessary for success on the Connecticut Mastery Tests and Connecticut Academic Performance Tests.
