Connecticut Commemorates the Civil War
2011 marks the sesquicentennial, or 150th
anniversary of the start of the U.S. Civil War in 1861. For the next
four years, Connecticut and the nation will hold events
commemorating this important time in American history, “that the
generations to come might know them.”
As the seat of state government during the Civil War, Connecticut’s
Old State House will play a pivotal role in the commemoration,
starting on April 12, 2011 – the 150th anniversary of the firing on
Fort Sumter that began the conflict – when CCSU’s Dr. Matthew
Warshauer delivers a powerful and engaging lecture based on his
book, Connecticut in the American Civil War: Slavery, Sacrifice &
Survival.
